Questionnaire guide
How can you explore possible signs of autism in an adult?
How can I tell whether I may be autistic as an adult?
There is no single sign that can identify autism. Screening instead considers a longstanding combination of experiences involving social communication, routines, interests and sensory processing, as well as their presence from early life. This questionnaire helps describe some of these areas without drawing a conclusion.
Which autistic traits does this questionnaire explore?
The questions cover the conscious effort involved in joining a conversation, following group discussions or understanding certain implied meanings. They also explore the need for predictability, difficulty with change, the intensity of some interests and the effect of sounds, lights or textures on everyday comfort.
Why can social interactions be tiring?
Some people consciously analyse when to speak, how far away to stand, facial expressions or implied meaning. This effort may not be visible to others and can require a great deal of energy. It may also have other explanations, such as social anxiety, a period of isolation or a difficult relationship context.
What role do routines and sensitivities play?
Routines can provide reference points and make transitions more predictable. Sounds, lights, textures or very busy environments can also have a significant impact. These experiences occur in connection with several ways of functioning and only suggest autism when considered alongside other dimensions.
Can autism first be explored in adulthood?
Yes. Adults may begin to wonder about autism later in life, particularly when their adaptation strategies become more demanding or a life change increases social demands. However, an online test is not enough. An assessment considers developmental history, current daily life and other possible explanations.
Frequently asked questions
Questions you may have
Can this test confirm that I am autistic?
No. It only shows whether several dimensions stand out in your answers. No online test or self-report questionnaire can reliably diagnose autism on its own.
What does ASD mean?
ASD means autism spectrum disorder. The word spectrum reflects the diversity of profiles, needs and levels of support, not a scale from slightly to very autistic.
Can you be sociable and still wonder whether you may be autistic?
Yes. Enjoying relationships or being able to hold a conversation does not show how much effort, preparation or recovery this requires. However, this point alone cannot support any conclusion.
Does sensory hypersensitivity mean that I am autistic?
No. Strong sensitivity to sounds, lights or textures can arise in many contexts. The questionnaire considers it alongside social communication and the need for stable reference points.
Why might my result be only slightly marked despite my concerns?
A short questionnaire cannot cover the full range of experiences, compensatory strategies and situations. A result that is not strongly marked therefore cannot rule out ASD.
Who can I contact for an adult autism assessment?
You can speak to a doctor or a professional familiar with autism in adults. Depending on your situation, they may refer you to a specialist team or an appropriate diagnostic pathway.
